Also, check out the above video for a walk-through there too. The following steps will walk you through preparing the first-boot of the microSD card to connect to your Wi-Fi network. This last step is important to make sure that your buttons and display are responsive.

The instructions below will step you through this process. This step is necessary for the GPi to properly shutdown RetroPie when you turn off the GPi using the switch on the top-left of the device. Not doing this step may result in file corruption or long boot times while the disk check is being performed.

This image has most of the steps already covered in a single image that you can easily download and burn to your microSD card. The RetroPie setup instructions are far from obsolete, some are going to choose the official path to setup their RetroFlag GPi case. Below are some quick instructions to get you up and running with it. My recommendation is to search google or your favorite search engine and locate whatever it is you want to install.

Is there a reason the enable hotkey key is set to the same key as the escape key for retroarch?

Need more detail, but have you looked at RetroArch Configuration on the wiki? I have tried setting up my controller again in emulation station and had no success. I just did this myself to confirm that you can I'm new to this as well.

I tried your idea of deleting contents of the joypad config folder and still doesnt work. In fact from my initial setup the hotkey functions never worked and i was thinking one needed to edit config file manual to set it up.

Research told me should be auto configured and by chance the hotkey worked for about 1 minute; i saved, i loaded, i escaped. Then one minute later gone. Very frustraiting. Ive also unregistered device via bluetooth and re-registered.

I found that most configs come with hotkeys already defined. This totally overwrote the function of those buttons. I tried it on a totally different controller and it also had the same terrible result. I have taken out such hotkey definitions but this means that by default this repo will provide people with controller configurations that simply do not work as intended.

You need to run the hotkey configuration setup I believe, to not have them enabled by default. Check the setup menu or use.

I was assuming that people wanted to use the keys as hotkeys when pressing another key or something. Unsure as I'm a little unfamiliar with this part of the project.
